Back in May, we were one of almost 39,000 organisations and individuals to respond to the government's consultation on PIP (Personal Independence Payment). The consultation, known as the Timms Review, was launched to ensure that PIP ‘is fair and fit for the future in a changing world’ and ‘helps support Disabled people to achieve better health, higher living standards, and greater independence, including through employment.’
Last month, the Timms Review Interim Report was published, and we are keeping a close eye on developments. We are pleased that the report recognises that PIP is essential for Disabled people, but that the assessment process is, for many, confusing, frustrating and humiliating. What remains to be seen is whether the government is truly committed to working with Disabled people and organisations like ours to redesign the assessment process.
