Many pedestrian crossings are timed based on assumptions about how quickly people can walk. However, there's been very little research into the walking and wheeling speeds of Disabled people. Transport for All are gathering evidence to help make road crossings safer and more accessible. The findings and recommendations will be published in a research report and used to help inform future guidance and improve crossing design across the UK.
Transport for All are looking for Disabled people to attend a short session where walking or wheeling speed over a distance of 8 metres will be measured. Participants will be booked into an individual time slot lasting 10-20 minutes and will receive a £10 thank-you payment for taking part. You can claim travel costs of up to £30.
