Merton Centre for Independent Living is Sainsbury’s Local Charity of The Year

Merton CIL are delighted to announce that we have been selected as Sainsbury’s Local Charity of The Year. We were selected by Sainsbury’s customers and colleagues as a charity that they wish to support as we make a big difference in the community.

This year’s Local Charity scheme began in July 2018, when Sainsbury’s staff shortlisted three local charities to be put forward to the customer vote. Merton CIL received the most votes and will be supported with a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness-raising from Sainsbury’s Local on Central Road in Morden.

Lyla Adwan-Kamara, CEO of Merton CIL, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us. Becoming Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year in Morden will make a huge difference to our organisation. We’re looking forward to the partnership and working closely with the staff.”

Chris Gilbert, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Central Road Morden, said: “Congratulations to Merton CIL. It’s great to be working with a new local charity this year. My colleagues are really excited about the partnership.”

The Local Charity scheme is now in its ninth year and Sainsbury’s expect to bring in around £2m for charities. It’s all part of their goal to donate more than £400m to charity by 2020.

You can donate to Merton CIL in store. We will also be awareness and fundraising in store on a number of dates over the next year.
