Craftivism and Chat at Home - 28th April 2020

If you did not join us for Craftivism and Chat at home, we missed you but you can read about and watch all that we got up to below.

Members and volunteers joined us for 2 hours on Zoom. We started by discussing how we had all been coping, how we were finding accessing services and getting food deliveries and feeling isolated. A number of attendees said that getting out and going for a walk in nature had helped with their wellbeing. Everyone also felt it was really nice to catch up and get connected.

Therefore, we will be arranging an extraordinary Craftivism and Chat session on Zoom so that people can join and have a little chat to help lift their spirits. Keep an eye out for details!

We then had two amazing performances from Disabled artists John Kelly (@rockinpaddy) and Richard Downes (@socialmodelling).You can watch below. John kicked off the performances with two songs. He also spoke about the need for a national independent living service and urged everyone to get involved in ROFAs campaign by recording a short clip awnsering these four questions:

  1. What’s your name, where do you live and why is independent living important to you
  2. Based on your experience what is the difference between social care and independent living
  3. Why do we need a legal right to independent living and a national independent living support service?
  4. What is your main message to the UK Government?

Richard then performed a number of poems from his books of poetry they related to Disability Eqaulity, politics, a joy of being alive and more. You can watch Richard perform his poems on youtube here -

We finished with a quiz that was hosted by volunteer Rhianne. The quiz had 3 rounds and John Kelly was the winner and was awarded a prize like no other - one of our incredible Craftivism & Chat packs!

We hope to see you all at Craftivism and Chat at home in May.
