Collaborative poem created by members at a Craftivism & Chat poetry session that explored why choice and control is important to us as Deaf & Disabled people.
I have control when I feel secure
I do not have control over my emotions
I have control when I am cooking
I don’t have control most of the time
I have control when deliveries come on time
I have no control, what the hell am I doing here?
I have control when I am driving my car
I don’t have control after I pay my bills
I have more control when I am by myself
I have no control when my electric wheelchair is not working
I have control when my day aligns with what I planned
I have no control over my noisy neighbours
I don’t have control when I am in hospital
I do have control when I am designing and making dresses
I have no control when people call me
I have control over my chair through my joy stick
I don’t have control of my money
I have control when I feed my cats
I have less control when I am with other people
I have control over who I let pass my front door
I have control and I have no control
But having control is important to me
Control is important for us all to see
